Hope everyone enjoyed the hunt, or if you weren’t actually there (like myself) the blog. Don’t forget to check out all the other blogs from the Cricket Crawl, and their latest updates, if you haven’t already.
We heard one at the Summit Community Gardens, which sounded like it was in a tree, one near the Backyard Garden, and at least three from the Urban Meadow, which used to be a vacant lot (how cool is that! They turned the lot into a meadow. Nice.) . All of these within a few blocks of each other. Maybe they know something we don’t know……….(aliens?, Nah)
The Urban Meadow also had a lot of other crickets and katydids actively calling, but unfortunately they weren’t calls that any of us could ID. Definitely need a “stridulation” expert for identifying everything in this area.
Our poor hapless team in Brooklyn Heights was working on moving to their next site, when they hear a cricket call. Of course they move closer to investigate, as any good scientist would, and start peering under the bushes looking for the critter. When, low and behold, instead of finding the cricket they were looking for, they find a naked man!
Definitely NOT what they were searching for.
Ahhh… If only I could be there with the rest of the team…...
Standing on the rooftops looking at the Manhattan skyline and the Statue of Liberty…...
Listening to the calls of the Greater Anglewing Katydid and the Fork-tailed Katydid like the rest of the team…..
Even if I was some of the team who couldn’t actually hear the frequency of the Fork-tailed katydid!
The Sweet Expedition is getting ready to start the search. The nighttime serenades are all beginning to fill the night…. What musical hoppers will the Sweet Team discover in the dense jungles of the tree canopies and rooftops above the streets of Brooklyn Heights?
Will the team be happily rewarded with many different species’ calls for taking on scaling the breathtakingly dangerous climb of five stories?
Or will the nighttime choirs rebel because our team used the staircase (or elevator)?
Stay close by and find out yourself!

Ok, so there’s some bad news and there’s some good news.
The bad news is the weather for tonight (in NY) looks wet and stormy – not the best conditions for people to listen to cricket calls :( So, unfortunately our cricket crawl is going to have to be postponed.
The good news is the hunt is rescheduled for tomorrow night!! :) (Sat. Sept. 12) And the weather sounds much nicer too – warm and clear.
Hope everybody will tune in tomorrow – talk to you later!
